THE SEASONS

We’ve approached Cattail Landing with the intent to make it a retreat and refuge, with each of the four seasons offering it's own beauty and appeal, in our timeless rural setting.  To complement the changing seasons outdoors, Cattail Landing offers all the modern comforts of the 21st Century. Our hot tub is a great way to relax under the stars on a Winter night.  The pier is a perfect spot at the end of a Summer day to watch the sunsets with a glass of wine, or to launch a kayak or canoe to explore the Bay.   After enjoying the Fall colors and a walk in the woods,  relax in the family roomand watch football on our Sony WIdescreen TV, with Comcast cable for all the latest sports events or Netflix.   The living room has a Mini Hi-Fi for music, beautiful orchids for decoration, and of course views of the Bay unfolding during the day.  The outdoor deck comes alive with the color and vibrance of Spring, which you can enjoy sitting in one of our comfortable deck chairs.

Summer

Enjoy the late summer evenings and golden sunsets from the living room, deck or pier.  Fish off the dock, take out a canoe or a kayak and explore Hopkins Cove, Parish Creek, and the West River, all part of the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Stop by and pick up fresh rockfish and grill on the barbecue, or cook up some crab cakes, with fresh local corn and salad.

FALL

It's a secret that the best time of the year for locals on the Western Shore is after Labor Day through Thanksgiving... The weather is cooler, the leaves begin to turn from green to brown, yellow, orange and red.  The pleasure boats on the Bay are replaced by the workboats of the Chesapeake watermen, running their crab lines in the morning, and the hardy sailboats that have their Wednesday night races through the Fall. It's also oyster season, with many local festivals and events celebrating that dictum "October is for Oysters!" Annapolis also hosts the annual U.S. Sailboat and Power Boat Shows, and of course there is Navy Football!

WINTER

There is nothing as spectacular as the bright blue sky of a winter day, and the reflection of the sun when the Bay has frozen over and ice and snow make for a brilliant winter landscape.  The many birds come to the house to feed in winter, so cardinals, jays, titmouse add color and song to the winter days.  Our large (5 person) Hot Tub is a great way to enjoy the winter night, after a home cooked meal,  Or if you prefer, enjoy the warmth of our fireplace in the main living room/dinning room.

SPRING

The Chesapeake Bay comes to life again in Spring with the trees turning an emerald green, the water in the bay clear and cool, inviting to get in our Boston Whaler to explore the wildlife that abounds in the Bay.  Cherry Blossoms, azaleas, dogwoods and wildflowers all bring forth the colors of a new season.  Spring arts and craft fairs are a great way to visit and meet local craftsmen, as are drives to visit antique stores and the Amish of Southern Maryland.
